Member Spotlight: Amy Hurst
Name: Amy Hurst, CPM®
Current Career: Senior Property Manager with AQUILA
AAFAME Position: I am a longtime member and supporter of AAFAME. I have served on the Holiday committee for several years.
Past Jobs: I have over 20+ years' experience in Commercial Property Management - my first CRE job began in 1994 as a receptionist for a company in Dallas, Texas. And since then, I have been gaining experience and responsibilities along with advancement with companies such as Cousins Properties, Colonial and CBRE.
Professional Aspirations: I have a good work/home life balance; I take advantage of training and educational opportunities to advance my professional skills and I network to practice my soft skills. I am a member of several CRE organizations with AAFAME and CREW Austin being my two favorites.
What do you want to be when you grow up: I consider myself a wine enthusiast as well as a foodie so probably something to do with both.
What do you not like about your boss: I love my boss. Feeling comfortable enough to disagree with him and still maintain an open line of communication has helped us build a strong relationship.
Unusual Experiences: I primarily manage office properties but recently acquired a medical building. Quirky things happen in a medical environment, for example, I recently had to eradicate bed bugs and lice!
Hobbies: I love cooking, playing golf, reading, and gardening (I grow veggies and herbs to cook with).
Pet Peeves: According to a recent test that I took in a leadership class through CREW Austin, I do not have patience for people that do not learn quickly, I honestly did not know that about myself. I also learned that when faced with conflict, I will manage the situation towards a positive outcome for all in such a way that it does not happen again but if that does not work then I will most probably force the parties into some sort of settlement whereby they have to submit themselves to my proposed solution.
If you had three wishes what would they be: I would wish for world peace, to make traffic to go away, and If I had it in my power, we would all work 4 days on and 3 days off. (maybe not in that order!)
Favorite Quotes, Sayings or Songs: My ring tone is 50 Cent 's "In Da Club"
What are your 2019 Goals: To be more supportive and a better leader to my team. I am an animal lover and consider myself to be a "crazy cat lady" so I volunteer with Austin Pets Alive! and I currently work in the neonatal program feeding and socializing kittens.
Favorite Thing About AAFAME: I have 2 favorite things about AAFAME -- Networking opportunities and Training. AAFAME keeps me up-to-date on things I need to know and expands my knowledge of the industry.
Would you like to give anyone a shout out: Amy Ables because there would not be an AAFAME without Amy Ables; Robert Richer for getting me involved and Scott Malone for keeping me involved.
